Can the internet help educate kids on the environment?

The answer is known, but not confirmed. Kids are able to go on the internet and find this website and read it, but the question is, will they?

True, that this site will tell children of all ages something new or refresh their memory about the environment and energy resources.

But, not all children, especially teens or preteens, will go on the computer and look for something to do to help with anything, that goes for the environment as well.

Hopefully, Scene Green will educate children for years to come, and you'll learn a thing or two while your here.

7 easy right now tips

Most of the energy people use comes from nonrenewable fossil fuels, such as coal, oil and natural gas. The supplies of fossil fuels on Earth are limited. We can't make more of them in a short time. If people keep using fossil fuels as we do today, their won't be enough oil, natural gas or coal in the future.

One way to make fossil fuels last longer is to conserve energy. Here are 7 easy things you can do at home to help protect the Earth:

1. Replace the old light bulbs around the house with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs).
CFLs use up to 75% less energy than a regular bulb.

2. Always turn off electronics when you're not using them – that means the TV, computer, and especially lights.
Electronics use up energy, even when they're in standby mode.

3. Decide what you want to eat before opening the fridge, don't just stand there with the door open.
It takes energy to keep cool air in the fridge. Up to one-third of the cool air escapes every time you open the door.

4. Don't let the water run when you brush your teeth or wash your face.
Saving water is an important part of protecting the environment.

5. If you see a faucet dripping, turn it off, or tell your parents to get it fixed.
Dripping water can add up and can waste more water than you usually use.

6. To keep cool – try using a ceiling fan instead of the air conditioner.
A fan uses less energy and can help spread cool air around your room.

7. Turn your thermostat down a few degrees in the winter and up a few degrees in the summer.
Having it a few degrees hotter or cooler will make a small difference to you and a big difference to the environment. You can always put on different clothes if you're too hot or too cold.

Green Tips

Tips:

1. Take shorter showers! You should try to take 5-7 minute showers, max. You can save money on your energy bills plus save actual energy. So, cut down on your shower time!
2. Turn off the computer screen! Believe it or not, turning off the screen to your computer saves quite a lot of energy. If you know you are going to be back on later but just don't want to turn the computer off, at least shut off the screen.
3. Turn off unneeded lights! Or, have your family stay in one room with one light, instead of everyone scattered all over the house with each room having a light on.
4. Use an aluminum water bottle! Don't use plastic; they take a long time to recycle. Also, it is much cheaper to use your facet water and much healthier than bottled water. This way you will also save money AND the environment!
5. Pick up trash! If you see a piece of trash on the ground when you are out for a walk or such, pick it up and throw it in the nearest trash can. It's as easy as that!
6. Take the bus instead of riding in a car. Many people usually ride buses places. Think about it. If 35-45 people can ride a bus, how many cars would those people have if they drove to where they wanted to go instead? More cars, more 'pollution', more exhaustion to harm the earth.
